65. The estimate is based on the assumption that units

capable of pumping a total of 40 million gallons per diem will

ultimately be installed, and that three units, one being a

standby, are provided for the first instalment, each unit being

capable of pumping 5 million gallons per diem into the service

reservoir, one being a standby.

Pipe Line between Pumping Station and Service Reservoir.

66. The length of this pipeline would be about 2/3 miles, laid under a widened portion of the road with the exception of

two short lengths of tunnel totalling about 350 yards.

67. It would be advisable for the reason already given,

to lay a pipe which would be capable of passing 40 million

gallons per diem without imposing too much head on the pumps.

Service Reservoir.

Mr. Woodward in his Report dated 30th October 1936

draws attention to the deficiency in service reservoir

accommodation which now exists. A good site, which is

indicated on the map, for one capable of helding 20 million

gallons is situated in a "cup" now occupied by a ricefield

which lies about 200 yards to the north of the road and about

800 yards south-west of the Reception Reservoir into which the

water flows from the Jubilee Reservoir.

69. Levels were taken which indicated that the top water

level would be about 330 feet if a reservoir capable of holding

20 million gallons were constructed.

70. Er. Woodward stated that the capacity of the existing

service reserveirs on the mainland amounted to approximatsiy

20.6 million gallons including the Shek-lai-pui Reservoir, and

another will shortly be completed which will increase the

storage provided to 26.6 million gallons, hence, if another

reservoir is constructed capable of containing 20 million gallons,

the total storage will then amount to 46.6 million gallons.
